The home of the 82nd Airborne Division will no longer be called Fort Bragg but could be named for a Medal of Honor recipient with ties to the post, according to a list released Thursday by the national Naming Commission     

The 2021 National Defense Authorization Act approved by Congress mandates renaming Department of Defense property that commemorates individuals who served with the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

Sen. Thom Tillis told reporters Wednesday that the consequences of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine need to be long-lasting.

“What he’s done is horrendous,” Tillis said in a news conference. “And even though the public reports are horrendous, the classified reports are even worse.”

Shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Congress via video Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis told N.C. reporters that Vladimir Putin and members of his regime must be held accountable for the numerous acts of war, aggression, and human rights abuses perpetrated under his watch.

“I for one believe that we should use every possible option to arm the Ukrainian people,” Tillis said.

Zelenskyy called on the United States to ramp up its aid to Ukraine.

The United States should not enter a war with Russia over its invasion of Ukraine but still has options it can employ to support the besieged country and its people, U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson said Thursday.

Hudson, one of Moore County’s two congressional representatives, was in town Thursday following a key vote in the House Wednesday to send billions in aid to Ukraine. Hudson, a Republican, supported the measure.
