ONCORD — U.S. Representative Richard Hudson, R-8th, is now accepting entries from all interested Eighth District high school students for the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.

A group of local leaders told U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson on Wednesday they need more resources to fight a growing heroin and prescription drug abuse problem in the Charlotte region.
Hudson brought together people from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and local government to help combat a problem he says a large segment of the community is unaware of.
“Over 20,000 Americans die a year from opioid prescription overdoses and this is a preventable problem but also a growing crisis in the country,” Hudson said.

Local leaders are concerned and, in some cases, outraged by news the Air Force is moving forward on plans to inactivate a Fort Bragg unit.
The Air Force decision to open a clearing house for airmen of the 440th Airlift Wing disregards Congress and flies in the face of a promise made by new Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, they said.
The clearing house opening this weekend will help usher the bulk of the 1,200-man 440th Airlift Wing to new units.
