Tribe awarded $480K grant for education

WASHINGTON — The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina received a $480,707 Department of Education grant today to improve educational opportunities for American Indian students.

“This is a huge win for our community,”said U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, who helped secure the funds. “This grant is a necessary step to help introduce families to the higher education system, equip students with critical knowledge and ensure folks have the skills they need to get and keep good-paying jobs.”

The grant, known as the Department of Education’s Grant for Indian Children, will also involve the Public Schools of Robeson County, Robeson Community College and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
