North Carolina Congressional Rep tours YMCA facilities in Asheboro stop
The Randolph-Asheboro YMCA hosted its Congressional Representative Richard Hudson, Tuesday morning, as part of a tour of the decades-old facility.
"I'm an old Y guy," Hudson said, adding that he grew up making use of YMCA facilities. "I believe in what you do."
The representative for North Carolina's 8th Congressional District, which includes Randolph County, Hudson's visit served two purposes for Hudson and the YMCA. For Hudson, this was part of his effort to get to know voters in his District.
"I got accused of spending more time here than the other representatives," Hudson said. "I love this community so much. I really look forward to getting to know you better and having you get to know me. I really want to be a resource for you."
For O'Hara, the visit offered a chance to showcase their impact on the local community.
"It's more of reaching out to let them know what's going on here in our community," said Randolph-Asheboro YMCA Executive Director Patrick O'Hara.
O'Hara said it's always a good idea to establish relationships with officials, particularly when in search of grant funding.
Hudson agreed.
"I really do want to partner with you and I know grants are important," Hudson said. "We're happy to help identify opportunities. Anything we can do to help you all be successful, we want to be part of it."
Both O'Hara and Hudson said efforts to secure additional funding matter due to the impact YMCA's have on their surrounding communities.
"How we support the [YMCA] it matters," Hudson said "I've heard a lot of stories about this [YMCA] and how great it is."
The Randolph-Asheboro YMCA offers several facilities, including a gym and splash pad, among other amenities. They offer several events, such as a holiday craft fair in November, meant to bring out people from the surrounding community.
