New Bill Aimed at Army's Adoption Practices of Military Dogs

May 24, 2016

An investigation by a local TV station revealed hundreds of soldiers' military service dogs were adopted out by the Army without their knowledge.

Now, a new bipartisan House bill will attempt to find an answer to how that happened.

The House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act that will, in part, request information on the mismanaged process of adopting out military working dogs, CBS Dallas-Forth Worth reported(link is external).

"It continues my quest to get answers for veterans who were unable to adopt their combat dogs because of hollow promises from our government," Rep. Richard Hudson, R-NC, said in a statement.

More than 100 dogs were adopted out without giving the handlers a chance to adopt.
