Lawmakers Question TSA's Exit Lane Decision

October 18, 2013

The chairman and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation Security Friday sent a joint letter to TSA Administrator John Pistole questioning the implementation of the agency's proposal to shift exit lane responsibilities to airports.

In the letter, Chairman Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) and Ranking Member Cedric Richmond (D-La.) requested that TSA respond to a number of questions that have been raised by airports and others. Among these questions, the lawmakers asked why TSA decided to use an amendment to the Airport Security Program rather than the formal rulemaking process to require airports to assume responsibility for monitoring exit lanes.
