Hudson to visit Uwharrie Mercantile, talk tax reform

September 19, 2017

TROY — U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson will visit Uwharrie Mercantile on Thursday to have a conversation about the challenges and prospects facing small businesses, as well as House Republicans’ vision to advance comprehensive tax reform that spurs job creation and grows the economy.

Uwharrie Mercantile, located in the historic 1909 Hotel Troy, is a coffee and gift shop run by owners Dana and Ray Dawson.

The Dawsons are a young, retired military family who moved back to Montgomery County in 2010, took a risk and purchased the Hotel Troy property.

Hudson is touring the facility to highlight the profound impact comprehensive tax reform would have on small businesses in rural areas like Montgomery County.

The Republican, who represents Montgomery in the 8th District, will be there from 2-3 p.m.

The shop is located at 401 N. Main St., Troy.
