Hudson farm tour makes Laurinburg stop

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson will be in Scotland County today to talk about farm issues.

Hudson, who represents the 8th Congressional district, will visit Hagler Farms on 1760 Old Maxton Road in Laurinburg, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Hudson will be meeting with local farm bureaus to provide a legislative update on the Farm Bill and speak with farmers about issues facing the agriculture community. The freshman congressman serves on the House Agriculture Committee.

“Agriculture is the number one industry in North Carolina and I look forward to promoting fiscally responsible, pro-growth policies that will ensure our farmers have the best opportunity for success,” Hudson said in a speech to farmers earlier this year. “This appointment has given me the opportunity to address serious needs of the people of our district, and I am looking forward to serving my constituents.”

The House Committee on Agriculture has jurisdiction over a variety of issues impacting America’s farmers from rural development and extension services to crop insurance and trade. The committee is responsible for oversight of the Department of Agriculture.

Hudson began the farm tour at the Union County Agricultural Center Monday morning. The tour consists of nine stops in three days until Jan. 30.

He is expected to visit Richmond County Agriculture Service Center this morning and make a stop in Lumberton . On Wednesday, he will visit the Rowan County Farm Bureau in Salisbury.
