Hudson discusses concussions with Carolina Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Head injuries and football have gained national attention over the years, and U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (NC-08) decided to take the conversation to the source.
Hudson, a leader on the Energy and Commerce Committee, visited the Carolina Panthers to discuss his efforts to increase collaboration and advance the understanding of concussions as well as the steps being taken by the Panthers and the National Football League to reduce injuries:
“Concussions effect people of all ages—from Bank of America Stadium to our neighbor’s front yard,” he said. “Despite all the progress made over the past several years, there’s still a lot we don’t know about head trauma. That’s why I’ve made it a top priority to examine this problem—especially in our nation’s youth.”
As co-chairman of the Pediatric Trauma Caucus, Hudson has been leading the charge in Congress to work with stakeholders to determine how policymakers can help lower pediatric trauma cases and improve care and treatment for injured children. The Pediatric Trauma Caucus was founded by Hudson and Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) to raise awareness and find bipartisan solutions to address the rate at which children are dying from traumatic injuries.
“I’m so impressed with the cutting-edge work being done by the Panthers to prevent, diagnose and treat player injuries,” Hudson said. “And I appreciate the emphasis the NFL is placing on player safety. I’ll continue to work with them to shine a light on this issue and improve our understanding of concussions.”
