Congressman tours new Anson hospital
Rep. Richard Hudson toured the newly-opened Carolinas HealthCare System Anson on Tuesday.
The congressman toured the majority of the hospital, including exam rooms, a trauma room, inpatient rooms, the radiology section and more. Michael Lutes, president of Carolinas Medical Center Union, explained the importance of the hospital’s new design. “This used to be called the rural healthcare model of the future, but for good or bad, I think this is the healthcare model of the future,” Lutes said.
Lutes and Gary Henderson, assistant vice president for Carolinas HealthCare System Anson provided Hudson with details about the facility’s inpatient and outpatient care options, 24-hour emergency care services, access to primary care physicians, improved access to specialists, the pharmacy, mobile health services and more. Lutes and Henderson also explained the hospital’s medical home in detail, a partnership between the patient, care providers and community to provide personalized care plans for patients. “Ultimately, our goal is to keep people out of the hospital,” Lutes said.
Hudson was impressed after his tour. “I’m very excited by what I see here and what a gem this is for Anson County,” he said. “It’s delivering a quality of care we haven’t seen here in a long time, if ever.”
The hospital has developed several baselines and goals, and plans to keep Hudson informed of its progress. “We’re certainly appreciative of the congressman coming,” Lutes said. “To have the support of the congressman definitely makes a difference and helps.”
The tour was part of Hudson’s District Listening Tour, which was designed to allow individuals and businesses in the district to tell the representative about their concerns and ideas for jobs and economic stability. In addition to Anson’s new hospital, Hudson visited the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Seven Oaks Doors & Hardware (Oakboro), Concord Regional Airport, and other locations from Monday to Wednesday, according to a media advisory.
