Concord City Council Member Sam Leder Dies

CONCORD, N.C. -- Concord City Council member Sam Leder has died.

  • He passed Sunday and is survived by his wife and two sons.
  • Leder was elected to the city council in 2015 and served as Mayor Pro-Temp since December 2018.
  • He was a native of Whiteville and alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

"As a member of Concord’s City Council, Sam was the thoughtful voice of reason that kept us on track. His infectious laugh that brightened anywhere he went will be missed by all,” said Mayor Bill Dusch.

Congressman Richard Hudson, who represents the Concord area, also released a statement on Leder's passing:

“I was shocked and saddened to hear that my friend Sam passed away last night. Renee and I are praying for his wife Shannon and their family in this difficult time. Sam has always been a respected leader in Concord, and I appreciate his years of service to the community and on City Council.”

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made available.
