2019 art competition in memory of Sam Bass

March 13, 2019

CONCORD — U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, who presents the 8th District, is accepting artwork from area high school students for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition.

The contest is being held in remembrance of legendary NASCAR artist Sam Bass, Hudson’s constituent and friend who passed away in February.

Each spring, members of the U.S. House sponsor the competition to recognize the artistic talents of students. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.

The 8th District includes all of Cabarrus, Montgomery, Moore, Hoke and Stanly counties, as well as portions of Rowan and Cumberland counties.

The 8th District winner will be selected by an Arts Advisory Committee made up of artists from the district and announced at a reception hosted by Hudson. The winner and one guest will have the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., to participate in the national ceremony with other winners from congressional districts across the country.

Winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Second-place artwork will be displayed in Hudson’s Washington, D.C., office and third-place artwork will be displayed in his Concord office.

All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution and may not be larger than 26 inches x 26 inches x 4 inches, including the frame.
