You elected me to Congress to solve problems, work across the aisle and stay focused on the issues that matter. I have remained committed to doing just that every day since I've had the honor of being your representative. But like you, I am frustrated by Washington.
Following up on their ‘COVID relief' bill which devoted just 9% of $1.9 trillion to combating the virus, last week Democrats jammed two partisan bills through the House that don't solve any of the problems they are supposed to address.

$100 million for a subway in Silicon Valley.

$1.5 million for a bridge to Canada.

$50 million eligible to Planned Parenthood.

$1.5 billion for Amtrak.

Does this sound like COVID-19 relief to you? Well to Washington Democrats, that's exactly what it is.

As we continue to grapple with this pandemic and work to improve our vaccination efforts, I toured two vaccine deployment locations in Harnett and Moore Counties last week. These visits are important for me to learn what's happening here at home so when I go to Washington, I am able to advocate for the needs of our community.

Chances are that at one time or another, you have sat down at your kitchen table and planned out a budget or balanced your checkbook for your family. For most of us, budgeting means making some tough decisions and compromising to make ends meet. Unfortunately, setting a budget does not look the same for Washington Democrats.

The White House set a record last week, but not one that we should be proud of. President Joe Biden signed 32 Executive Orders and actions in his first week in office, shattering the record of the next highest number by a modern president- 5 signed by President Obama.

I have been outspoken on my willingness to work with President Biden on policies that rebuild our economy, reopen schools, increase vaccine deployment and on other areas where there is bipartisan support. However, the executive actions signed last week are the opposite of bipartisan solutions.

Whether you agree with the outcome or not, something remarkable happened last week: the peaceful transfer of power. I worked hard to help re-elect President Donald Trump, but I attended the inauguration of President Joe Biden as a symbol of my commitment to our Constitution.

In President Abraham Lincoln's second inaugural address, given during the midst of the Civil War, he finished with this appeal: "With malice towards none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations."

It's been an unprecedented week in our nation's capital. Let me first say I am sickened and heartbroken by what unfolded at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday afternoon. The violence, vandalism, and loss of American lives – including a U.S. Capitol Police Officer – are shocking and go against everything we stand for as a people and a nation. I condemn this violence and anyone on the right or the left who resorts to violence to achieve a political end.

Last week, the Concord Police Department and our entire community suffered the tragic loss of a hero.

On the night of December 16, Concord Police Department Officer Jason Shuping was among the first law enforcement officers on the scene to respond to an attempted carjacking. The suspect opened fire, striking Officer Shuping and another first responder – Officer Kaleb Robinson.
