These were the words uttered repeatedly by U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson as he got a first-hand look Friday afternoon at some of the labs available at Robeson Community College to train students for jobs in health-related fields and advanced manufacturing.

The Laurinburg-Maxton Airport has an important role to play in bringing jobs to Scotland County and to the region, according to U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, who toured the facility on Friday.

Hudson was in Maxton as part of a three-day tour of transportation hubs in the district, and said that few are more valuable to the local economy than the airport.

SALISBURY — County leaders pitched their vision of the Rowan County Airport to two congressmen and a slew of state delegates Wednesday.

U.S. Reps. Richard Hudson and Virginia Foxx toured the airport as a part of Hudson’s transportation jobs tour. They were joined by N.C. Reps. Harry Warren and Carl Ford, and Sens. Gene McLaurin and Andrew Brock.

Today the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that provides the Secretary of Transportation full authority to access funds to prevent the FAA furloughs and contract tower closures.

Local leaders and federal officials have until June 15 to persuade the Federal Aviation Administration to restore funding to the air traffic control tower at Concord Regional Airport.

After that, budget cuts stemming from the federal budget sequestration will force towers at 149 noncommercial airports nationwide to close.
