Hudson Co-Sponsors Regulatory Reform Bill to Increase Economic Growth
REINS Act would block burdensome regulations

CONCORD- In an effort to restore a measure of accountability for federal regulations, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) co-sponsored the Regulations from theExecutive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. The bill, introduced in the U.S. House by Rep. Todd Young (R-IN09) this week, includes 121 co-sponsors.

The REINS Act would require that any regulation with an economic impact of $100 million or more come before Congress for a vote before taking effect. It passed the House overwhelmingly in the 112^th Congress, but never received a hearing in the Senate.

“At a time when our economy is struggling, the last thing we need is uncertainty about future regulatory costs,” said Hudson. “Burdensome regulations cost jobs. The REINS Act will prevent bureaucrats in Washington – most of whom rarely recognize the real world ramifications of costly red tape - from needlessly saddling our local small business owners with unnecessary regulations.”

Rep. Hudson’s co-sponsorship comes on the heels of his 8^th District Listening Tour, in which he met with job creators and employers to discuss ways to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the district. “I heard over and over again about the need to remove the legislative hurdles that are handcuffing our small businesses. For this reason, one of my first initiatives when I returned from the Listening Tour was to co-sponsor the REINS Act.”
