Hurricane Helene Resources

It breaks my heart to see the devastation brought to our state by Hurricane Helene. Know that I'm praying for the victims, our first responders, and all those affected by this tragedy.

Folks trying to connect with family members in the impacted regions may call NC 211 (or 1-888-892-1162 if calling from out-of-state) to report missing loved ones or request a welfare check.

For those who have lost homes or businesses to Hurricane Helene, and those who have damage to real property, there are four ways to apply for FEMA disaster assistance:

To register for NC Department of Public Safety’s Individual Assistance Program to receive assistance for homeowners and renters whose residences were damaged or destroyed, visit:

US Department of Agriculture (link is external)(USDA) offers programs to help with emergency livestock assistance, water hauling assistance, emergency conservation, forest restoration, tree assistance and crop disaster assistance:

North Carolina Emergency Management(link is external) is utilizing search and rescue volunteers, NC National Guard, air assistance, shelters, mass feeding sites and hot meal kitchens, Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MREs), and individual assistance programs.

Please continue to monitor the North Carolina Department of Public Safety's website(link is external)for updates on relief efforts, power outages, open shelters, and more.

Individuals and Households Program (IHP) provides financial and direct services to eligible individuals and households affected by a disaster, who have uninsured or under-insured necessary expenses and serious needs. IHP assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot compensate for all losses caused by a disaster. The assistance is intended to meet your basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts. For help, visit:

I would also direct you to the website for the North Carolina Red Cross(link is external) where you can donate, volunteer, or get help.

You can also donate to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund by visiting nc.gov/donate(link is external)

Donations can also be mailed to:

  • NC Disaster Relief Fund, 20312 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-0312.
  • Or NC Disaster Relief Fund, c/o United Way of NC, 1130 Kildaire Farm Road, Suite 100, Cary NC 27511.

Donations made to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund will go to nonprofits working to meet the immediate needs of storm victims such as food and water, cleaning supplies and other emergency supplies. All of the donations made will go to disaster relief.
