Hudson Supports Trump’s Sanctions on Putin’s Cronies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), a member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, released the following statement responding to the Trump Administration’s actions to impose new sanctions on Russian oligarchs, officials and entities in response to worldwide malign activity. As a Commissioner, Rep. Hudson has consistently and strongly condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and other neighboring countries.
“Today’s sanctions crack down on Putin’s inner circle and show the Kremlin their brazen behavior will not be tolerated,” said Rep. Hudson. “I fully support this strong action, and I’m pleased to see the White House use the tools provided by Congress to increase pressure. The message is loud and clear: Putin and his cronies must stop their efforts to destabilize and bully other countries.”
At an international gathering of parliamentarians in Vienna, Austria, in February, Commissioner Hudson represented the United States and condemned the Russian Federation’s violation of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act in its aggression against Ukraine and similar actions against other neighbors. He also stressed the connection between this aggressive external behavior and the retreat from democracy and violation of human rights at home. Learn more here.
