Hudson Statement on Soldier’s Death Following Training Incident
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Today U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), the representative of Fort Bragg, released the following statement on the training incident at Fort Bragg last week that injured seven personnel and killed one soldier, Staff Sgt. Alexander P. Dalida:
“Renee and I offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of Staff Sgt. Alexander P. Dalida. Staff Sgt. Dalida was a decorated soldier who spent more than a decade in service to our country. We are forever grateful for his dedication and sacrifice. Renee and I will continue to pray for the others who were injured and their families, as well as the entire special operations community,” said Rep. Hudson.
“This tragedy comes just days after an accident at Camp Pendleton that injured 15 service members and another at Fort Hood that killed one soldier. While the investigations into these incidents are still ongoing, it remains clear that our military is facing a serious readiness shortfall because of Washington’s failure to ensure our warfighters have the needed resources, training and tools. Sequester cuts, short term spending measures, and uncertainty have undoubtedly impaired our military’s readiness and put these soldiers at risk. I refuse to accept the fact that more of our troops are being killed in training than on the front lines in Afghanistan as the new normal. It’s time for the Senate to pass the NDAA so we can begin to rebuild our military.”
The House passed the FY18 National Defense Authorization Act on July 14, 2017. The Senate will resume consideration of the bill today.
