Hudson: A Step in the Right Direction, but Americans Still Deserve Better

ROCKINGHAM- Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement on the national jobs report for February 2013:

“I was encouraged to see a reduction in the unemployment numbers and I hope that today’s report will be the start of rising labor force participation and falling unemployment. An unemployment rate of 7.7% is still too high and we need to do everything possible to help people the 12 million unemployed Americans find work.

“This week’s historic spending cuts are a sign to our markets, investors, and citizens that Congress is serious about tackling our debt problem and we are working to create an environment of certainty for job creators. A sure way to accelerate economic growth is by reducing regulations, implementing comprehensive tax reform, and introducing a budget that will balance in ten years—all measures the House is working to achieve. While today is a good step in the right direction, Americans still deserve better and I will remain committed to creating jobs and promoting policies that will pave the way for economic growth.”

The economy added 236,000 jobs in February while unemployment dropped from 7.9 percent to 7.7 percent, the Labor Department reported.
