Trump Signs Into Law Hudson Amendment To Increase Funding for Special Forces

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), Fort Bragg’s Congressman and an outspoken advocate for North Carolina's military community, released the following statement after President Donald Trump signed into law a defense funding bill which included his amendment to increase funding for the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) for additional training of Special Forces:

“The men and women at Fort Bragg who I represent are the tip of the spear, and I’m proud to lead the efforts to ensure they have the support and certainty they need to train, fight and win,” said Rep. Hudson.

President Trump signed the Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act of 2019 and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2019. Overall, this bill provides funding for the Departments of Defense, Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and related agencies, and includes a short-term Continuing Resolution until December 7, 2018 to keep the government open until all annual appropriations funding bills can be considered and signed into law. This marks the first on-time annual funding bill for the Department of Defense in 22 years.

A vocal and effective advocate and legislator, Rep. Hudson has had incredible success getting things done on behalf of our veterans, soldiers and military families. In August, President Trump signed into law the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included his important amendment to ensure soldier pay adequately reflects modern warfare demands. This amendment is one part of his efforts to help support our troops and their families. In July, Rep. Hudson introduced the Special Operations Forces Tax Cut Act (H.R. 5747).

Also in July, Rep. Hudson’s resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the lack of timely and predictable funding unnecessarily undermines the mission of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and jeopardizes the security of the United States (H. Res. 1009) passed the House. To watch Rep. Hudson’s remarks in support of this resolution, click here.
