NC Business Summit Canceled Due to Hurricane Florence

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement announcing the North Carolina Congressional delegation has canceled this week’s North Carolina Business and Economic Development Summit in Washington, D.C.:

“As forecasts show Hurricane Florence is gaining strength and will likely make landfall in the Carolinas, we have decided to cancel this year’s business summit,” said Rep. Hudson. “While this is an important and popular event, the safety and well-being of our constituents is our top priority. I am encouraging my constituents to review your hurricane preparedness plans, make sure your emergency kits are stocked and prepare for a direct and major impact. My wife Renee and I are praying for the safety of all North Carolinians.”

The 22nd annual business summit was scheduled for September 13th and 14th in Washington, D.C. In addition to briefings by the entire North Carolina Congressional delegation, speakers at this year’s summit were to include Speaker Paul Ryan, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie, SBA Administrator Linda McMahon, North Carolina Lt. Governor Dan Forest, North Carolina Commerce Secretary Tony Copeland, and other members of congressional leadership and the Trump Administration.

Nearly 200 workers and business leaders from across the state attend the summit to discuss ways to spur economic growth and bring jobs home to North Carolina. In addition to invaluable collaboration, attendees heard from special guests, including state leaders, officials from the Administration and Capitol Hill, and media experts.
