Hudson Statement on House Passage of Foreign Aid Package

April 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a series of critical security supplemental bills that provide much-needed defense assistance to our nation's allies and partners around the world.

Congressman Hudson said,"President Joe Biden’s failed foreign policy has emboldened our enemies, like Iran, Russia, and Communist China, leading to attacks on our allies around the globe. On October 7th, we watched the barbaric and unprecedented attacks on our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists. Since then, countless innocent Israel citizens have been held hostage, tortured, and killed by Hamas, including women and children. Unfortunately, President Biden’s continued appeasement of Iran and failure to support Israel has escalated Iranian aggression against our ally. Just last weekend – for the first time in history – the Iranian regime launched a direct attack on Israel, firing over 300 missiles and drones at the nation. Israel has every right to defend itself against these attacks, and the United States must continue to support our ally in their efforts.

"We know Communist China will stop at nothing to dominate the Pacific and assert its authoritarian agenda worldwide. As China heightens its aggression toward one of our most important democratic trade partners in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan, it is more important than ever that we strengthen our ally’s ability to deter further threats.

"Vladimir Putin is an evil dictator who has clear ambitions to rebuild the old Soviet Empire. His unjustifiable and unlawful invasion of Ukraine is just one part of his plan. If Putin is successful in Ukraine, he will seek other territory, which risks drawing the United States into a war in Europe. That is why, while I don’t support everything in the Ukraine bill, I do support providing lethal aid and weapons needed to fight back against Putin.

"America must stand on the side of freedom and make clear we will not ignore tyrannical aggression threatening our allies and partners around the world. I know some are not happy we are forced to make these difficult choices. To those, I would suggest the blame and frustration should be directed at our weak and feckless Commander-in-Chief Joe Biden."
